The old versions have the timeline and overlapping of clips - much more you have to uninstall windows live essentials and then install 2.1 - copy it from windows xp windows directory, then install 2.6, then go back and reinstall windows live essentials with the new version. If you hate windows movie maker - newer version - you can find versions 2.6 and 2.1 that will both run on windows 7 all can be used (one at a time). Thanks TomKuhn - this helped me solve this problem. If anyone's got some input I'd like to hear it.

Which sucks because the option is right there (and I was able to easily find it in regedit) and it's an awesome free video editor. It allows me to change it, but whenever I want to change the location it greys out that file location. It's actually a really great free video editor, but for some reason it isn't letting me switch the default save location to a network drive. I tried using a program called "VideoSpin" by Pinnacle. It wouldn't be a big issue to simply change the location to the network drive when you're in the Save As box, however, sometimes students forget to do that and makes it a huge issue when they try working on that project on another computer because the files are on another computers C: drive. By default, Movie Maker has the local hard drive "My Documents" location as the default save location. The reason why I want to switch it is because our students have their documents loaded off of a network drive. Or I'm just blind and am completely over looking it. It being a Microsoft product, if it is there, I'm sure it's buried deep into the registry somewhere. I was searching through the registry and couldn't find anything there that stuck out to me. Not even sure if the registry keys are even there or not, but I wanted to be able to switch the default file location that Windows Movie Maker saves to.
